Yoga Journal #6
Yoga is seen as a healing practice in my yoga practice space. This is communicated through healing affirmations and claims of healing. The use of affirmations is used in the majority of yoga classes I have taken. I see a lot more use of positive affirmation in yoga classes through YouTube.
Reflecting back to the Iyengar yoga class we took, yoga was strongly seen as a healing practice through Iyengar’s stories and claims of healing. The yoga teacher-reviewed some of the yoga poses that could help heal and relieve certain ailments. In a way, we were also called lazy for our age because we weren’t as flexible as we should be and didn’t have the stamina. However, that could all change through the consistent practice of Iyengar yoga. According to Iyengar, asanas heal specific ailments just because of his experience in practicing for so many years but does not have actual scientific evidence to back up his claims.
After practicing yoga, I always feel some sense of relief. I always feel relief in the tension I feel in my body due to stress and lack of exercise. I also feel a sense of calmness mentally and emotionally which is a nice reset for my mind to focus on the tasks at hand. In a way, feeling better physically, mentally, and emotionally gives me a sense of healing.
