The role of the body is to obtain knowledge. Practicing yoga can help obtain that knowledge so one can be liberated quicker. The body also has a complex nervous system allowing higher senses of consciousness which is valuable and a ladder to liberation. 


The body is approached by practicing asanas with physical benefits like increased flexibility, muscle strengthening, and body tone. Also, the practice of pranayama, where prana moves throughout the body to allow higher levels of consciousness, can be obtained. 


The body is seen as a divine vessel or vehicle to enlightenment to those who are wise. It is said that when we truly understand the body, we discover that it is the world which in essence is divine. The body is also perceived as a field where we grow and harvest our experiences, whether positive or negative; however, attaining liberation by using the body as the vehicle can help one move swiftly through life and have eternal enjoyment.
