Yoga Journal #9
Yoga is used as a form of meditation. The process of focusing your attention on something, whether it's a task, object, or thought, is considered meditation. Therefore focusing your attention on your body and or breathing is meditation.
Focusing on the body and postures is present in all my practice spaces. In Sivananda yoga, you focus on the body and breathe. I found Sivananda yoga more meditative because it started and ended with the practice of savasana (corpse pose) and pranayama (breathing regulation).
Combining these two practices is already familiar for me because I like to practice meditation when stressed and before studying to help me have a clear and focused mind. I never tried Sivananda yoga before this class. However, I have taken classes that practice savasana and pranayama, but not in a structured way like in Sivananda yoga, which I liked. Because of my past experience and like for meditation, I see Sivananda Yoga as a practice I could commit to long-term when comparing it to other forms I tried in the past because of the light and peaceful feeling I experienced after the practice.
